Abstract

Indonesia is currently preparing to reach its Golden Generation peak in 2045, where young people play a crucial role in shaping a better future for the nation. Therefore, it is essential to equip youth aged 16–30 to actively participate in economic and social development. Many young Indonesians migrate to Surabaya in search of better educational opportunities and career prospects, as the city offers high-quality educational facilities that are often unavailable in smaller towns. Surabaya must thus provide spaces that support their academic and social growth. A prominent lifestyle trend among today’s youth is "nongkrong", a social activity that serves not only as entertainment but also as a means to exchange ideas, build networks, and foster personal development. In response to this, a Youth Activity Center is needed as a space for young people to gather and be productive. Through the concept of placemaking, such a center can create flexible, inclusive, and relevant public spaces that address the needs of the younger generation. By supporting creativity, skill-building, and positive activities, the Youth Activity Center is expected to have a significant impact on youth potential development and contribute to the sustainable growth of Surabaya.
