Abstract

In addition to rice and corn, soybeans are one of the main food commodities in Indonesia. however, domestic production has met national demand, making import a necessary solution. Soybean imports are often the main choice due to their lower price and relatively steady availability. Canada ranks as the second-largest supplier of imported soybeans to Indonesia. this study uses a quantitative approach to analyze the effects of soybean production, soybean consumption, exchange rates, international prices, and local prices on the volume of soybean imports from Canada to Indonesia. The data used are secondary data obtained from sources such as Trademap, The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and Index Mundi. The study utilizes time series data spanning from 2004 to 2023. The results show that soybean production, soybean consumption, and international prices do not significantly affect the volume of soybean imports from Canada to Indonesia. However, the exchange rate has a negative and significant effect, while local prices have a positive and significant effect on the volume of soybean imports from Canada to Indonesia. Simultaneously, soybean production, soybean consumption, exchange rates, international prices, and local prices all influence soybean imports from Canada to Indonesia.
