Abstract
Foreign Foreign portfolio investment in Indonesia refers to the placement of funds by foreign investors in domestic financial instruments. The increase in foreign portfolio investment has a positive impact on Indonesia’s financial market. However, this type of investment is often referred to as “hot money” due to its high sensitivity to changes in domestic macroeconomic conditions, which act as pull factors. When instability arises in these factors, foreign investors tend to withdraw their funds massively, potentially triggering turmoil and instability in the domestic financial market. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain the stability of macroeconomic variables that serve as pull factors in order to sustain the attractiveness of foreign portfolio investment in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG), BI Rate, exchange rate (Rupiah), and Indonesian Government Bond Yield on foreign portfolio investment in Indonesia, both in the short term and long term. The data used were obtained from Bank Indonesia and Investing.com, covering a 10-year observation period from Q1 2014 to Q4 2023. The analytical method employed is a quantitative approach using the Error Correction Model (ECM). The results show that in the long term, IHSG and the exchange rate have a positive and significant effect on foreign portfolio investment in Indonesia, while in the short term, only the BI Rate has a significant positive effect. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Government Bond Yield does not have a significant effect in either the long term or the short term.
