Abstract

The cracker industry, especially shrimp crackers, is an industry that has the potential to produce waste and cause environmental pollution, especially the aquatic environment around the industry. Shrimp cracker waste has high COD and BOD levels, so if the waste is directly discharged into the environment without prior treatment, it will cause many problems for the environment such as disruption of the surrounding river ecosystem. This study aims to reduce COD, BOD levels and neutralize pH and determine the effect of waste inflow rate and microbial recycle rate on shrimp cracker industry waste processing using contact stabilization technology. The shrimp cracker waste processing process using contact stabilization technology uses two operating conditions that are varied, namely the waste inflow rate of 8 L / hour; 10 L / hour; 12 L / hour; 16 L / hour; 24 L / hour and the microbial recycle rate is varied by 4 L / hour; 5 L / hour; 6 L / hour; 8 L / hour; 12 L / hour. The optimum COD and BOD levels reduction was at an inlet wastewater flow rate of 8 L/hour and a microbial recycle flow rate of 12 L/hour with a COD reduction of 94.10% and a BOD reduction of 95.48%. This shows that the inlet water flow rate is inversely proportional to the reduction in COD and BOD levels, namely the smaller the inlet wastewater flow rate, the greater the reduction in COD and BOD levels. Meanwhile, the relationship between the microbial recycle flow rate and COD and BOD levels is directly proportional to the microbial recycle flow rate, the greater the reduction in COD and BOD levels.
