Abstract

A pharmaceutical-grade salt factory using local salt as raw material, with a production capacity of 77,000 tons per year, is planned to be established in Sampang, Madura. Operating continuously for 330 days per year, the production process involves dissolving the raw salt, followed by a series of chemical reactions using NaOH, Na₂CO₃, and BaCl₂ to produce brine and remove impurities. The brine is then clarified, neutralized with HCl, and concentrated using a multiple effect evaporator before undergoing crystallization, centrifugation, drying in a rotary dryer at 100°C, and size reduction to 100 mesh with a ball mill. The plant will operate as a Limited Liability Company (PT) on a 31,350 m² site with 200 employees. Utility requirements include steam, fuel, water, and electricity. The total investment is estimated at approximately IDR 1.72 trillion, with a 2-year construction period, 10-year plant lifespan, attractive internal rate of return (IRR), a payback period (PBP) of 3 years and 11 months, and a break-even point (BEP) of 31%. The pharmaceutical salt produced will be used in various medical applications such as infusions, tablets, vaccines, oral rehydration salts, dialysis fluids, and health drinks.
