Abstract
The report is made in accordance with Magang Mandiri MBKM activities conducted at Balai Pemberdayaan Industri Persepatuan Indonesia (BPIPI) Kemenperin. The core of the internship is the testing of mechanical properties of silicone rubber for prosthetic foot bottom use. This study was published to determine the effect of variations in the composition of talc powder and catalyst on the tensile strength (Fmax) and Young's modulus of three types of RTV silicone, but in this study using RTV 683, RTV 48, and RTV 4503. The material composition used the Taguchi method through the L27 orthogonal array. The test was carried out using the ISO 37:2017 standard in the laboratory using a Zwick Roell z020 tensile testing machine. The test results showed that increasing the composition of talc and catalyst affected the tensile strength and Young's modulus of silicone rubber. RTV 683 showed a trend of increasing tensile strength at a composition of 3% 50% and decreasing at 2% 60%. RTV 4503 showed an increase in strength and Young's modulus with increasing talc, while RTV 48 showed a decrease in Young's modulus with increasing talc. The obstacles in the test included mixing failure and testing machine errors. These results demonstrate an applicable understanding of the effect of material composition on the mechanical properties of silicone rubber and a real contribution to the research of developing better prosthetic feet. Keywords: silicone rubber, prosthetic feet, Fmax, Young's modulus, Taguchi, tensile test, ISO 37:2017
