Abstract
Adolescence is a challenging transition phase, where individuals experience significant changes physically, emotionally, and socially. One common challenge faced is social anxiety disorder, which is excessive fear in social situations due to fear of negative judgment from others. This disorder affects adolescents' ability to interact, concentrate, and form a poor self-perception. Despite its high prevalence, awareness and understanding of this issue are still low, and access to educational media that is easy for adolescents to understand is very limited. The research method used in this design uses a mixed method consisting of qualitative and quantitative approaches. The quantitative method focuses on collecting data in the form of questionnaires distributed via Google Form. While the qualitative approach focuses on collecting data through an interview process with experts such as psychologists and illustrators, in order to strengthen the background of this design. The results of this research process are the basis for designing an illustrated book that functions as an educational media to increase adolescents' understanding and awareness of the issue of social anxiety. This book is specifically designed for adolescents aged 15–20 years, with a non-clinical approach packaged in the form of interesting and informative story visualizations. The information is delivered in a light yet meaningful way, so that it is easy to understand and relevant to the daily lives of the target audience. Through the use of visuals as the main media, this illustrated book is expected to be an effective alternative solution in conveying mental health issues inclusively. Visual media allows for the delivery of messages in a more emotional and easily digestible way, so that it can bridge adolescents' understanding of social anxiety without giving the impression of being patronizing. Thus, this book not only functions as an information medium, but also as a tool to build social awareness and empathy among adolescents.
