Abstract
The Muang Sangkal dance is one example of a traditional dance that originates from Sumenep Regency, Madura, East Java. Traditional dance is a form of national culture that we must preserve. However, the Muang Sangkal dance is not as prominent and not as well-known as other traditional dances. In fact, this dance holds many unique aspects behind it. Unfortunately, most people outside of Sumenep are unaware of this dance. Therefore, through this design, it is hoped that the popularity of the Muang Sangkal dance can be increased as a form of traditional dance. This design utilizes primary and secondary data collection techniques. Primary data is obtained from interviews, observations, questionnaires, and focus group discussions (FGD). Meanwhile, secondary data is obtained from literature studies based on journals, books, and websites. The data analysis techniques used in this design include 5W + 1H analysis, consumer insight analysis, and consumer journey analysis. After obtaining the results of the data analysis, the formulation of the design concept is carried out, which consists of keywords, verbal concepts, visual concepts, and media concepts. Based on the results of this concept, the design process will be conducted until it ultimately produces media implementation. The design of the interactive illustrated book about the Muang Sangkal dance is created so that this dance can be accessed more widely, especially for children aged 9-12, so that they can recognize and preserve the existing national culture. Keywords: Muang Sangkal Dance, culture, Sumenep.
