Abstract
Clinical laboratory is a health laboratory that carries out clinical specimen examination services to obtain information about individual health, especially to support efforts to diagnose diseases, cure diseases, and restore health that produces waste products in the form of liquid waste originating from examination service activities in the fields of hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, radiology, and domestic activities. This liquid waste is a potential source of water pollution because it contains organic compounds, inorganic compounds and hazardous elements. Based on the initial test, the waste content that exceeds the quality standard limits is COD, TDS, Pb and N-Total. The purpose of this study was to analyze the variation of plant types, adsorption media thickness and contact time in reducing COD, TDS, Pb and N-Total and to analyze its effectiveness on clinical laboratory liquid waste. Phytoremediation methods with kiambang and azolla pinnata plants are used to remove pollutants in contaminated waters using plants. The plants used are hyperaccumulator plants to absorb organic and inorganic compound contaminants including heavy metals through the root system and utilize microorganisms in the decomposition of organic and inorganic compounds in wastewater. There are additional adsorption media in the form of zeolite and manganese sand (Manganese Greensand) as supporting media in removal efficiency, with different thicknesses. The results obtained from this study that are most effective are variations in plant combinations (kiambang and azolla pinnata) with an adsorption media thickness of 4: 3 cm at a contact time of 4 days in reducing COD by 90%, TDS by 19%, Pb by 81.56% and N-Total by 70%.
