Abstract

Internet usage in public places, such as cafés, is rapidly increasing, leading to the need for effective bandwidth management to ensure that service quality remains optimal and evenly distributed for all users. This study aims to implement bandwidth management on the hotspot network at Distrik Kopi Surabaya using the Queue Tree and Per Connection Queue (PCQ) methods on Mikrotik devices. The Queue Tree method combined with PCQ was chosen due to its capability to distribute bandwidth very evenly among active users, thereby reducing the access inequality commonly experienced in public hotspot environments. Testing was conducted by measuring Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, including throughput, packet loss, delay, and jitter, using Wireshark and speed test tools. The test results showed a significant reduction in packet loss to nearly 0% from the previous approximately 3%, with average delay drastically decreasing from 100 ms to below 10 ms, and throughput reaching a very good category (>2100 kbps). Although jitter instability still occurred, the overall network quality showed significant improvement. This study demonstrates that implementing the Queue Tree method with PCQ not only improves the stability and performance of the hotspot network but also provides a more balanced and optimal internet access experience for all users at Distrik Kopi Surabaya.
