Abstract
The city of Madiun, strategically located in western East Java, serves as a major logistics hub between Central Java and East Java, with efficient land transportation access, including railways and toll roads. In addition to being a transit city, Madiun is also known as a center for the railway industry through PT INKA, a business center for trade, and a leading producer in the agricultural sector, particularly rice, making it the food basket of East Java. Government support in the form of modern infrastructure, educational centers, and entrepreneurship programs has driven the growth of SMEs in Madiun City, reaching 23,768 units by 2023. However, this growth has not been supported by adequate accommodation facilities in Madiun, particularly high-quality hotels that cater to the needs of business travelers and tourists. As a solution to this accommodation issue, a boutique hotel with a “sense of place” approach could serve as a new attraction. Boutique hotels emphasize unique design, local elements, and high-quality service to create an authentic experience. This design approach not only enhances visitor appeal but also supports the local economy through the involvement of local resources and culture. Thus, boutique hotels represent a strategic step toward addressing accommodation challenges and strengthening Madiun City's position as a competitive business hub and tourist destination at both the national and international levels.
