Abstract

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence-based application developed by OpenAI, capable of providing text-based responses to various types of questions or information needs. This technology offers interactive and intelligent solutions to assist users in completing academic and non-academic tasks, as well as providing a more efficient and personalized communication experience. The acceptance of technology like ChatGPT among students can be influenced by various factors, such as intrinsic motivation and perceived usefulness. This study aims to evaluate the factors influencing students' intention to use ChatGPT as a learning aid. This research uses a modified Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to examine the effect of intrinsic motivation and perceived usefulness on students' behavioral intention to use ChatGPT. The method used is quantitative, utilizing Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the assistance of SmartPLS 4 software. Data was collected through a questionnaire distributed to 356 active students from the Faculty of Computer Science at UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur, selected using purposive sampling. The results indicate that intrinsic motivation has a significant positive effect on Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) of ChatGPT. Furthermore, Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) were found to mediate the relationship between intrinsic motivation and behavioral intention to use ChatGPT for academic activities. The testing results with P-value < 0.05 and T-statistic ≥ 1.96 show that these variables have a significant impact. This research provides important insights into understanding the factors that influence technology adoption in education, particularly in utilizing ChatGPT to support the learning process.
