Abstract

Productivity of tower cranes plays a crucial role in the success of construction projects, especially in high-rise building construction. The efficiency of tower crane utilization directly affects project time and cost. However, there is a difference between theoretical productivity based on equipment specifications and actual productivity based on field observations. This study aims to compare these two approaches to obtain a more accurate depiction of tower crane performance in construction projects. This research was conducted on the construction project of Tower 3 at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) using a Potain MCT 205 tower crane. Primary data were collected through direct observation over seven days, while secondary data were obtained from equipment specifications. The analysis was carried out by calculating the cycle time and productivity of the tower crane for various types of work, such as formwork installation, reinforcement lifting, and concrete pouring using a concrete bucket. The study results indicate a 29% difference between theoretical calculations and field observations, with theoretical calculations yielding higher values. These findings provide insights for project planners and contractors to enhance the effectiveness of tower crane utilization, optimizing productivity and efficiency in construction projects.
