Abstract

The digital economy has experienced rapid growth in recent years, giving rise to large technology platforms called “Gatekeepers”. This phenomenon raises issues of market competition and dominance of large companies that can harm innovation, consumers, and small businesses. To address this, the European Union issued the Digital Markets Act (DMA) as a policy that regulates large technology platforms in the European digital market. This thesis analyzes the implementation of the DMA policy in three main stages: transposition, application, and enforcement in the period 2022-2024. Through a qualitative descriptive method, this research evaluates how the policy was adopted, implemented, and the impact of the DMA policy on six “Gatekeepers” companies (Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta, and Microsoft). The results show that the DMA succeeded in creating a transparent legal framework, but challenges related to compliance, policy adjustments, and resistance from technology companies remain significant, requiring more comprehensive measures by the EU in the future.
