Abstract

The Mangrara Banua traditional ceremony is an important tradition in the culture of the Toraja people, performed as a gesture of gratitude after the completion of the construction or renovation of the Tongkonan ancestral house. However, over time, understanding of the values and meanings behind this ceremony has diminished, particularly among the younger generation. The decline in interest and understanding of this tradition poses a risk of losing appreciation for the cultural heritage of Toraja. Therefore, this research aims to design an illustrated book as an educational medium to reintroduce the Mangrara Banua ceremony to the younger generation. The illustrated book is designed to be engaging and easily understood, in order to foster pride and appreciation for local culture among teenagers. This book is expected not only to serve as a tool for preserving tradition but also as a means of strengthening the cultural identity of Toraja in the future. Thus, this illustrated book has the potential to contribute to the sustainability of Toraja's cultural heritage while enhancing understanding and appreciation of the Mangrara Banua traditional ceremony.
