Abstract

Instagram’s multiple account featur allows users to have more than one Instagram account. Instagram users create accounts other than the first account which are called second accounts. The second Instagram account has a different level of privacy than the first account. Generally, the second Instagram account shows a different identity and is more tailored to the owner’s wishes. This research aims to determine privacy management in the second generation Z Instagram account in Surabaya. Researchers used qualitative research methods and a virtual ethnographic approach. The research result show that the characteristics of the second Instagram account are more private content and choosing a unique username while still using the original face as the profile photo. Through communicatin privacy management, researchers use three perspective to analyze privacy management, namely privacy ownership, privacy management, and privacy turbulence. Ownership of information (privacy ownership) of the second Instagram account owner is carried out by out by limiting the dissemination of second account content through the account locking feature (private) so that the account owner Instagram can select followers based on close interpersonal relationships in the real world. In privacy control, Instagram account owners tend to consider aspects of gender equality in information disclosure. In the privacy section there is very minimal turbulence.
