Abstract
Generation The communication patterns of generation X and generation Y couples are different because they are more open to introducing each other gradually, which results in harmony. This research uses qualitative research, which uses word descriptions to understand, analyze and interpret phenomena as a whole. Data for this research was collected using a purposive sampling technique. Relevant informant criteria for research were used to collect this data. Generation X couples do not use social media in their marital relationship, in contrast to generation Y who use social media which can cause relationship conflict. In marriage relationships, generation X and generation Y couples prioritize the intensity of direct and face-to-face communication. The existence of understanding and commitment to each other between partners ensures that their relationship is harmonious. Overall, this research states that understanding how generation X and generation Y communicate is very important. It is very important to build good relationships. An open relationship between couples from both generations can improve their relationship and reduce conflicts that occur due to differences in the way they communicate.
