Abstract

A Polypropylene Plant with a capacity of 111,000 tons/year using the EL PASO Process will be established in the PT. Krakatau Industrial Estate Cilegon (KIEC), Banten. The main raw material is Propylene (C3H6), while the supporting raw materials are Ziegler-Natta Catalyst, Hydrogen (H2), Nitrogen (N2), and the additive Irganox @1010 (C73H108O17). The production process of polypropylene pellets consists of four stages. The first stage is the preparation of raw materials, where propylene and hydrogen are pressurized to match the conditions inside the reactor. The second stage is the polymerization process, where propylene comes into contact with the catalyst, forming polypropylene chains. These polypropylene chains are then terminated with H2. The conversion rate in this polymerization process is 60%.
