Abstract

Bawaslu is one of the agencies tasked with carrying out elections together with DKPP and KPU. Bawaslu is the body tasked with supervising all stages of election implementation and reducing the number of violations in elections. In the 2024 election, the East Java Province Bawaslu received 92 reports of alleged campaign violations from the public. This research aims to find out, analyze and describe the role of Bawaslu in reducing the number of violations in the 2024 Election in East Java Province. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. The focus of this research uses property theory (Horoepoetri et al., 2003) which states that a role can be implemented if it includes four dimensions, namely the role as a policy, the role as a strategy, the role as a communication tool, and the role as a tool for resolving disputes (problems). The research results show that Bawaslu's role in reducing the number of violations in the 2024 Election in East Java Province is quite good by carrying out several efforts including appeals through suggestions for improvements, coordination meetings, and creating modules. This is proven by the role of Bawaslu as a policy, strategy, communication tool and problem solving tool in carrying out supervision in accordance with PKPU Number 3 of 2022 concerning Stages and Schedule for the 2024 General Election, which is also supported by adequate facilities and human resources. Apart from that, handling alleged violations will be processed if they meet formal and material requirements and collaborate with various related agencies.
