Abstract
The quantity of banana leaf waste in Indonesia that is not utilized will inevitably lead to an increase in overall waste. The potassium content of banana fronds is considerable, rendering them a viable source of raw material for fertilizer production. The production of potassium phosphate fertilizer (K3PO4) from banana frond ash and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) is achieved through a process of extraction. The ash resulting from the combustion of banana fronds is extracted with phosphoric acid. The objective of this study is to ascertain the reaction kinetics, specifically the reaction speed constant and the reaction order, of the formation of potassium phosphate from banana frond ash extract and phosphoric acid. The research was conducted at varying temperatures and times. The temperatures employed in the study spanned a range of 40 to 80 degrees Celsius, with five discrete levels: 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 degrees Celsius. The extraction time was set at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 minutes. The formation of potassium phosphate from banana leaf ash and phosphoric acid was found to follow a first-order reaction with a reaction rate constant of k = 0.0151 min-1 at 80°C. The activation energy was found to be 170.8776 J/mol, with the value of the collision frequency (k0) being 0.0163. The reaction rate equation is k = 0.0163 e-20.533/T. The highest conversion rate achieved was 0.5698, representing a conversion of 56.98%.
