Abstract

This research aims to understand how adolescents form their self-concept within families associated with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Parents play a crucial role in shaping adolescents' self-concept; therefore, despite their responsibilities in the TNI, they must still provide guidance and support to their children. The study utilizes a qualitative descriptive method, which describes and interprets the meaning of collected data to provide a comprehensive overview of the issue being examined. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with selected informants based on predefined criteria. The findings indicate that families play a significant role in cultivating a positive self-concept in adolescents. Adolescents who communicate openly with their families tend to develop a positive self-concept. Furthermore, the profession in the TNI does not hinder family communication; pluralistic and consensual communication patterns within families can foster a positive self-concept in adolescents. A strong self-understanding among adolescents is a crucial factor in shaping their self-concept. Good self-understanding enhances adolescents' confidence and their ability to effectively confront challenges.
