Abstract
This research examines the phenomenon of exposure to sexual content in Minecraft game content on the President Gaming YouTube channel. This research aims to determine the exposure to sexual content on President Gaming's YouTube channel among elementary school children in Surabaya and the role of parents in controlling access to this viewing. Sexual content is currently used to attract audiences by combining game characters and how to play in gaming content on the YouTube platform. This research uses a descriptive qualitative study approach with in-depth interview methods with children who are subscribers to the President Gaming YouTube channel and their parents. Data collection techniques were carried out using interviews, documentation and observation. From the results of interviews with child informants, it was stated that sexual content on YouTube is often presented through attractive and interactive visuals through games that are liked by elementary school children, so it tends to increase children's curiosity about sexuality at a very early age. This can have an impact on children's psychological development and the way they understand social norms around their sexuality. Digital literacy in parents is crucial in dealing with exposure to sexual content experienced by children. The role of parents proved crucial in this research. Parents who actively control and monitor their children's YouTube watching activities have succeeded in reducing the negative impact of exposure to sexual content. Policies implemented at home such as setting screen time, use of parental control apps, and open two-way communication about the content their children watch are some of the effective methods used by parents to protect their children from inappropriate content.
