Abstract

The year, 2024, is a crucial year for Indonesia as it enters the period of presidential and vice-presidential transitions. This transitional period has sparked aspirations and motivations from various individuals and groups to actively contribute until the General Election Commission (KPU) finally determined three pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2024 election. Each candidate pair has different visions, missions, and programs to attract potential voters' attention. However, one proposed program that has captured public attention is the free lunch program by candidate pair number 02 (Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka). This program has been widely discussed in the media, generating various pros and cons. Therefore, this research aims to understand the framing of the reporting on the free lunch program by candidate pair 02 (Prabowo-Gibran) in the online news portals Kompas.com and Mediaindonesia.com during the period November 28, 2023- February 10, 2024. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to describe or explain the meaning behind a reality. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation and literature studies. Data analysis techniques were conducted using the framing analysis model by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki, which consists of syntax, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures. The results of this research show that although Kompas.com strives to maintain its neutrality and objectivity, the reporting on Kompas.com tends to support the free lunch program. Conversely, the reporting on Mediaindonesia.com shows its opposition to the free lunch program
