Abstract
Batik is a cultural heritage owned by the Indonesian people and has been recognized by UNESCO as Indonesia's original cultural heritage. Batik is spread in almost all regions in Indonesia, and each region has different batik characteristics. This makes batik much in demand by many people. For example, Sidoarjo Batik is known as Batik Jetis and Batik Sekardangan. Sidoarjo Regency has five written batik centers with different characteristics and characteristics in several sub-districts since the Dutch colonial era. This encourages to design a place or container that can accommodate this potential and can also introduce typical Sidoarjo batik to the outside world. So it takes the design of the Batik Gallery and Education Center in Sidoarjo that applies the Reinventing Tradition theme. With the design of Batik Gallery and Education Center with Neo-Vernacular Architecture Approach in Sidoarjo is expected to be an image for Sidoarjo City and can further advance the economy of Sidoarjo City. Site selection is on Jalan Diponegoro, Sidoarjo District with a site area of 7,219 m2. In designing this facility using Neo Vernacular Architecture approach. This approach applies existing architectural elements, both physical (form, construction) and non-physical (concept, philosophy, spatial layout) with the aim of preserving local elements that have been formed empirically by a tradition that is then more or less updated towards a more modern or advanced work without setting aside local traditional values and crossing it with contemporary elements.
