Abstract
The increasingly rapid increase in tourism in the Karimunjawa Islands after the Covid-19 pandemic relies on the main mode of transportation, namely sea transportation and alternative transportation in the form of air transportation. Currently, these two modes of transportation are not able to fulfill these activities. This is because sea wave conditions are unfriendly during certain seasons which results in disruption of sea transportation. To overcome this, the Jepara Regency Government has a plan to expand Dewadaru Airport which is then forwarded to the Ministry of Transportation with details of the expansion as follows: The airport's runway, currently 1,200 meters, will be increased to 1,700 meters. The passenger terminal area at Dewadaru Airport is currently only 220 square meters and will be expanded to 2,800 square meters. Meanwhile, the taxiway measures 62 x 15 meters, and the apron measures 91 x 50 meters which can serve ATR-72 type aircraft. This aims to ensure that propeller aircraft like the ATR-72 can land at full capacity. The land provided by the Jepara Regency Government covers an area of 8,600 square meters. The new Dewadaru Airport Passenger Terminal, in its building design, will characterize the characteristics of local buildings and the culture of the people of the Karimunjawa Islands. Using the Neo Vernacular approach and typology method with the fusion of local architectural aspects, namely the Bola House, it is hoped that the airport building can become a landmark by visualizing the locality of local architecture and culture of the Karimunjawa Islands.
