Abstract

The commodity Crude Palm Oil (CPO) or palm coconut oil has become one of the largest commodities in the world because of its crucial role in everyday life. Raw palm oil can be used for cooking, ingredients for cosmetics, and so on. So from that, this increased consumer demand leads to deforestation in quite worrying amounts. As a result, CPO producers are racing to meet the global standardization in sustainable palm oil production (Voluntary Sustainability Standard on Palm Oil Production) created by RSPO as a global private governance actor, including SIPEF. As a CPO production company, to meet these standards, SIFEF has implemented its three indicators, namely Quality Management, Social Responsibility, and Environmental Management through the formulation of Responsible Plantation Policy (RPP). In its implementation of the Quality Management Indicators, SIPEF has applied Best Management Practices, product quality, and supported the RSPOs certification of its smallholders. In addition to Social Responsibility, SIPEF has established various infrastructures and facilities for its workforce. Finally, the implementation of Environmental Management at SIPEF is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as land management for its gardens. Thus, this company has achieved all the principles of the RSPO standard.
