Abstract

Thrifting is a culture in the form of buying and selling used goods, most of which are fashion products. This culture came from America and London, then entered and developed in Indonesia through trade and has a high demand by traditional markets in Indonesia. However, along with the increasing number of used imported clothes entering Indonesia, Indonesia’s government has responded to thrifting culture in the form of closing thrift shops in Indonesia, which has led to the emergence of societal adaptation to thrifting culture in the form of thrifting of batik cloth (jarik) and kebaya. Through this research, the author wants to prove that there is a form of glocalization or localization of thrifting culture which started from cultural adoption and then changed to being adapted to local wisdom in Indonesia itself, namely thrifting of batik and kebaya cloth. This research uses a qualitative descriptive analytical method by searching for primary data through interviews and secondary data through literature reviews and social media analysis. In this research, it was found that there is a form of glocalization in the development of batik and kebaya cloth thrifting culture which goes through a process of of communication and adaptation. Keywords : Thrifting, Batik Cloth, Kebaya.
