Abstract

An acetanilide factory from aniline and acetic acid using an acetylation process with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes/year will be established in the Karanganyar Beluk Kidul Industrial Area, Sroyo, Jaten District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. Making acetanilide using this acetylation process first aniline is heated to a temperature of 150⁰C and acetic acid (100% excess) goes to the expansion valve and then fed to the reactor. The reaction runs under operating conditions at a temperature of 150⁰C with a pressure of 1 atm and a reaction time of 6 hours. This reaction produces two products. The top product is acetic acid vapor and water. The product from the bottom of the reactor is fed to the cooler up to a temperature of 80⁰C and enters the decolorizer tank for the clarification (bleaching) process by adding active carbon. The results of the decolorizer process are fed to a filter press to separate the acetanilide solution from activated carbon. The acetanilide solution that has been cleaned from active carbon is then fed to the crystallizer for crystallization. After the crystallization process, the mixture of crystals and mother liquor is fed to the centrifuge. Acetanilide crystals are fed to a rotary dryer for the drying process. Acetanilide crystals from the rotary dryer and cyclone are fed to the cooling conveyor to be cooled to a temperature of 32⁰C and fed to the ball mill to be crushed and uniform in size to 100 mesh. Acetanilide crystals that are uniform in size are then fed to the acetanilide silo.
