Abstract

Workplace bullying is still frequently occurs in the Indonesian film industry, but the lack of protection leaves workers unsure of what to do when experiencing such violence. Consequently, these stories often remain internalized within the film community. On August 31, 2022, the Instastory of the account @juandini went viral on social media after she took a social justice stance by narrating incidents of workplace violence that befell one of her teammates. In connection with this, the researcher seeks to describe the reception of film workers in Surabaya towards the social justice action taken by the account owner @juandini. This research employs a qualitative approach with Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory to uncover the reception of film workers in Surabaya, categorized into three groups (dominant-hegemonic, negotiated, oppositional). Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 6 informants who are film workers in Surabaya. The results show variations in the reception of film workers toward the social justice action, influenced by differences in backgrounds and experience levels in the film industry among the informants.
