Abstract

One sustainable alternative energy to replace fossil fuels whose availability is decreasing is bioethanol. Raw materials that can be used in making bioethanol contain sucrose, starch and cellulose. Breadfruit is used as raw material because its starch content is quite high. This research focuses on increasing bioethanol production using the bulk feed method using breadfruit as raw material and with the help of the zymomonas mobilis bacteria. The aim of this research is to make bioethanol from breadfruit, determine the right time to add glucose to the fermentation process, and determine the best glucose level to add to the fermentation process. Bioethanol production is carried out through a series of processes, the raw material for breadfruit is first processed into breadfruit flour and then hydrolyzed. Then make a starter to be used in the bulk fermentation process and bulk feed. After that, dry biomass, glucose content and ethanol content were analyzed. The best results obtained for adding glucose to bulk feed fermentation were at the 20th hour with a glucose feed concentration of 14 g/L and producing an ethanol content of 25 g/L.
