Abstract

The Wonokromo River, also known as Kali Jagir, is a branch of the Surabaya River, part of the Brantas watershed. The existence of the Wonokromo River which crosses a densely populated area increases the high risk of environmental pollution. This is supported by the results of the Wonokromo River water quality test (Nginden Intan – Jl. Wonorejo Segment) which shows that several parameters do not meet class II water quality standards, including DO, BOD, COD and TSS parameters. In accordance with the 2014-2034 Surabaya City Regional Regulations, the Wonokromo River will be developed into a tourist destination and river transportation service center, so that the river water quality must be improved to comply with class II water quality standards. To overcome this problem, research is needed that focuses on analyzing the causes of failure and proposals for improving the water quality of the Wonokromo River by applying the Six Sigma (DMAIC) method. Six Sigma is a comprehensive approach to solving problems and improving processes through the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) stages. Analysis of the results in this research begins with the Define stage which includes measuring Wonokromo River water quality parameters such as pH, Temperature, DO, BOD, COD and TSS. The second stage of Measure will involve calculating the DPMO (Defect Per Million Opportunities) value, which produces a figure of 130,300 with a sigma value of 2.471. The Analyze stage involves using a Fishbone or RCA diagram to identify the main causes of non-conformity of river water quality with quality standards. These causes are found in aspects of industrial activities, domestic activities, community participation and river management strategies. The Improve stage includes various solutions provided, such as spatial planning, law enforcement, and the use of sensor technology. The final stage, namely Control, is used to supervise the implementation of the proposed solution, such as carrying out planning integration and checking existing developments around the river.
