Abstract
Listening to music is an activity that is mostly done by many people, especially the internet generation or commonly called generation Z. Listening to music can be an entertainment and even healing for some people who experience psychological problems such as depression with proper use. One of the music claimed to be healing or self healing is the album "Mantra" by Kunto Aji which was released on September 14, 2018. This study aims to find out how the meaning and acceptance of Generation Z in Surabaya towards self healing in the album "Mantra" by Kunto Aji. The research method used in this study is a qualitative study with a reception analysis approach to encoding / decoding models by Stuart Hall. Data collection was carried out by conducting in-depth interviews with informants who listened to the Kunto Aji "Mantra" album and had or were experiencing depression, documentation, observation and literature study. The results of this study indicate that Generation Z is in three positions, namely the position of dominant hegemony, negotiation and opposition in the process of meaning and acceptance of self-healing in the album "Mantra" Kunto Aji.
