Abstract

The Intern tells a story about the intern life of a 70 years old man, Ben Whittaker. This research aims to see how elderly masculinity represents in film. The Author chose 29 scenes that indicate the signs of elderly masculinity. The method used in this research is the semiotic analysis by John Fiske consists of reality level, representation, and ideology. Data collection in this research uses documentation and literature studies. This research's results disclosed Ben's elderly masculinity portrayed as an experienced figure, advantageous, being other people's solution, adapting quickly, and romantic. The most conspicuous form of elderly masculinity in this film portrays a family-oriented man, which can be seen through his relationship with his biological family, how Ben maintains his relationship with his workmates, to his relationship with someone he likes.
