Abstract
Food waste is waste in the form of leftover food or food ingredients that have not been consumed. Food waste is a problem that often occurs in urban areas such as the city of Surabaya. Traditional markets are one of the city facilities that produce food waste. This study aims to determine the impacts that occur as a result of the generation of food waste originating from market facilities in the city of Surabaya. Identification of environmental impacts is carried out by observing the food waste management process in each market TPS. From the results of quantification of waste generation from Traditional Markets, it was found that an average generation of 1.748 tons/day from North Keputran Market, 58.456 Kg/day from the Genteng Market. compliance with TPS facilities in accordance with applicable regulations and generation of leachate in TPS. The generated leachate has BOD, COD, and TSS pollutant parameters that exceed the quality standards, with values of BOD 3056 mg/l, COD 5184 mg/l, and TSS 2140 mg/l at TPS Pasar Keputran Utara, and BOD 3020 mg/l l, COD 5312 mg/l, and TSS 3450 mg/l at TPS Pasar Genteng. Therefore, it is recommended to handle leachate generation in the form of utilizing third parties or channeling leachate to the domestic wastewater treatment system.
