Abstract
Garbage is an unused material from the rest of human activities and it is also one of the complex problems that are now faced by almost all countries including Indonesia. households as a result of the increasing number of people who are growing, which one is the Kebraon area that is located in South Surabaya. The active role of the community in garbage management efforts is expected to affect the amount of garbage that can be reduced. Garbage management with the 5R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Replace, and Replant) is one method that was considered complex in dealing with garbage problems in the planning area. The 5R method that involving community participation will be able to reduce the rate of garbage generation that occurs in the research area. By involving the participation of the community as many as 100 samples according to the Yamane formula calculation, the research was carried out by involving the community in the implementation of sorting and applying the 5R method. Analysis of the data using the correlation analysis method to show a fairly good correlation between the participation of the community in managing garbage and reducing the garbage produced. Research data shows that with the 5R method, the community can reduce garbage as much as 40.83% of the garbage generated by the community. The results of the correlation test also show that the variables consisting of public awareness in managing garbage, community participation, the 5R concept has a fairly strong correlation with the remaining % reduction, the higher the percentage of the variable, the lower the remaining waste reduction in the research area, in other words, community participation in implementing the 5R concept can answer the problem of the large number of household garbage generation which is the main source of garbage generation in the Kebraon area, Surabaya city. .
