Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of extraction time on the color and yield of essential oil from crystal seedless guava leaves (Psidium guajava). The extraction method used is the microwave hydrodistillation. The variables used in this study were extraction time fo r 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 hours and microwave power of 300, 450, and 600Watts. The operating conditions in this extraction process use an atmospheric pressure and temperature of ± 100 o C with the ratio of the feed to solvent (w/v) of 1:7. The results showed that the extraction time did not have a significant effect on the color of essential oils, but had a significant effect on the yield of essential oils. The color of the essential oils of the crystal seedless guava leaves is in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for essential oils in general. The highest yield was produced at extraction time of 3 hours, the microwave power was 600Watt, which was 1.0%.
