Abstract

Bioplastics are plastics that are easily broken down in nature. Bioplastics are made from a combination of synthetic polymers and natural polymers, this mixture allows for more plastic easily decomposed by microorganisms in the natural environment. Bioplastics can be utilized as packaging like conventional plastic so it can handle environmental problems caused by non-degradable plastic waste by microorganisms. Therefore, research was conducted with the title "Synthesis Bioplastics from Breadfruit Skin Starch and Rice Snail Shell Chitosan (Pila Ampulacea) With the addition of glycerol" is intended to reduce environmental problems caused by the use of conventional plastic. This research aims to looking for the right formulation to synthesize bioplastics. Bioplastics are made by mixing natural polymers, namely: starch derived from breadfruit skin with the addition of chitosan from rice field snail shells as a strengthening agent and glycerol as a plasticizer. Starch is weighed using a ratio to chitosan of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5 with a total solid of 2 grams. Starch is dissolved use 50 ml of distilled water, while the chitosan is dissolved using 1% acetic acid solution as much as 50 ml. The two solutions are then mixed and added glycerol with a concentration of 0.5%; 1% ; 1.5% ; 2%. After all mix If the mixture is homogeneous then the bioplastic solution is poured into the petridish for molding. Then it is dried using an oven. Based on the results of the research carried out, the correct formulation was obtained In synthesizing bioplastics, the starch:chitosan ratio is 1:1 with concentration glycerol of 2%. Bioplastic tensile strength test results were 1.526 MPa, elongation 57%, strength water absorption 55% and biodegradation 70%.
