Abstract
Nowadays, the development of energy storage in the world is very rapid. Recently, technology has emerged that utilizes heat storage in one place object. This technology is called PCM (Phase change material). PCM is an energy storage material that utilizes phase changes When heat is absorbed (discharging) and heat is released (charging). PCM has several types, namely organic, inorganic and eutic, selecting the type of PCM will follow the intended use of the PCM. PCM technology is generally used in hot storage and cold storage. In this research, technology PCM is used as cold storage. This research uses types Euthetic PCM is based on water, salt and vinegar and additional ingredients propylene glycol and tapioca starch. The aim of this research is to find out the effect of adding propylene glycol and tapioca flour on PCM (Phase Change Material) as a low temperature storage application (cooling). The process of making PCM involves mixing all the ingredients magnetic stirrer with a temperature of 60°C for 5 minutes. Then stage PCM material encapsulation uses HDPE plastic. After that stage PCM application to determine temperature changes during the charging process (Freezing) and Disposal (Melting). The research results show that adding more tapioca flour will affect the slowness thermal conductivity of PCM whereas more propylene glycol can affects the rapid thermal conductivity and lowering the freezing point of air. So in this research, it was concluded that PCM with the addition of flour tapioca and propylene glycol are better than PCM with water alone. Keywords: Charging; Discharging; Eutetic
