Abstract
Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is a plant that is widely cultivated in Indonesia and has the potential to be cultivated because it has high economic value and competitiveness.The low production of melon plants is due to the provision of nutrients and the selection of the number of fruits that are not optimal.The growth and yield of plants can be optimized by providing various treatments,including the provision of appropriate and balanced nutrition using biological fertilizers and the number of fruit reared in one plant.This study aims to determine the effect of biological fertilizer dosage and the number of fruits on the growth and yield of melons in Turus Village,Gurah District,Kediri Regency,East Java in FebruaryApril 2020.The study used a randomized block design (RBD) 2 factors repeated four times.The first factor is the dosage of biological fertilizer which consists of 5 levels, namely without the provision of biological fertilizer (control) (P0),8 ml/plant (P1),16 ml/plant (P2),24 ml/plant (P3),32 ml/plant (P4).The second factor is the number of fruits which consists of 2 levels,namely 1 fruit/plant (B1) and 2 fruits/plant (B2).There was no significant interaction between the treatment of biological fertilizer doses and the number of fruits in all observations.The treatment dose of biological fertilizer 16 ml/plant (P2) significantly increased the number of leaves aged 49 days after planting (20.24%),fruit/fruit weight (42.42%),fruit/plant weight (36.81%),fruit weight/plot (21.03%),fruit circumference (10%) and fruit sugar content (8%) compared to controls.Treatment 2 fruit/plant (B2) produced the highest fruit/plant weight and fruit/plot weight with an increase in weight of 57.71% and 24.63%,respectively.
