Abstract
The development of the region that aims to strengthen the economy of the region can be done by developing the potential sectors owned by each region.The competition in the prime sector (the potential) becomes a normal thing in the development process of a region.This study will analyze the prime sectors in the northern sumatra province and describe the development of each sector and its influence in both province and national.The study aims to know the potential sectors in the northern sumatra province so that the local government is focused on the development of the area. Location quote approach (lq), shift share (ss), and classen tipology used in analyzing the prime sectors of northern sumatra provinces, So from the results of this research the agricultural sector found, Fisheries and forestry, industrial processing sector, Government administration sector, And the other service sector is the superior sector in the northern sumatra province.
