Abstract
Wastewater disposal without further processing can cause environmental pollution, one of which is the high content of the parameters of the batik wastewater such as COD, color, and also total ammonia that exceeds quality standards. One method that can be used to reduce the value of these parameters is the adsorption process by utilizing corn waste and cocoa shell as an adsorbent through the activation process using HCl. The research consist of 2 stages, the first is batch adsorption process using variations in the type of adsorbent (corn waste and cocoa shell), mass of the adsorbent (40 gr, 80 gr, and 120 gr), and stirring time (5 minutes, 15 minutes, and 30 minutes). The second stage, the continuous adsorption process with variations in the type of adsorbent (corn waste and cocoa shell) and wastewater discharge (20 mL/min, 22,5 mL/min, and 25 mL/min). The results of the batch adsorption process indicate mass of the adsorbent of 120 gr and stirring time of 30 minutes were the most optimum with percent removal of COD in the adsorbent of corn waste and cocoa shell of 86% and 76%, percent removal of color 64% and 53%, percent removal of total ammonia 55% and 48%. In the continuous adsorption process, the optimum wastewater discharge is 25 mL/min with percent removal of COD in the adsorbent of corn waste and cocoa shell of 95% and 94,7%, percent removal of color 95,4% and 94,9%, percent removal of total ammonia 96,3% and 95,4%. The model used is the Thomas Model in continuous adsorption because the continuous process of percent allowance occurs optimally. Keywords: Adsorption, Corn Waste, Cocoa Shell, COD, Color, Total Ammonia
