Abstract
Indonesia is a country that has a large area of sea waters and the potential of seawater that can be made into salt. But the quality of seawater for salt production is still not optimal. This is due to the presence of impurities such as Magnesium (Mg) and Calcium (Ca) ions in the salt which make the salt content low. To improve the quality of salt is done by adding excess reagents so that impuritis in salt is reduced. Therefore, in order to obtain maximum precipitation, it is necessary to add excess reagents from the precipitation reaction. The reagent that is able to precipitate Ca ions in the CaSO4 compound is Na2CO3. The purpose of the study was to find the reaction order and reaction speed constant of CaSO4 precipitation on salt. This research was conducted in the initial stage, namely recrystallization so as to obtain a saturated salt sea, then the addition of Na2CO3 reagent to precipitate the CaSO4 content. In order to obtain maximum precipitation, the addition of reagents needs to be given in excess and the stirring time used is 10%; 15%; 20%; 25%; 30% and 10; 20; 30; 40; 50 minutes. Based on the research conducted, the results obtained are impurities that are completely precipitated in the addition of 30% reagent and stirring time of 50 minutes. The CaSO4 precipitation reaction speed constant of 0.0039 is obtained from a pseudo first-order linear graph which has an R2 value of 0.9165.
