Abstract
The high or low level of poverty is an indicator to see how successful the development carried out by a country is, because when people fail to meet the basic needs of a certain standard of living, they can be classified as poor, accompanied by declining welfare. Poverty is still a serious problem and Sampang Regency contributes to this, because it occupies the first position with the highest poverty rate compared to other districts/cities in East Java Province, even the percentage is higher than East Java Province, which is still above 10%. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of education and population on the level of poverty with the open unemployment rate as an intervening variable in Sampang Regency. This type of research is quantitative with secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency in the last 15 years, namely 2007 - 2021. The data analysis tool used to analyze the influence of these factors uses the path analysis method. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the length of education and the open unemployment rate have no direct effect on the poverty rate. Directly the population has a negative effect on the level of poverty. While indirectly the level of open unemployment cannot influence the mediation of length of education and population on the poverty level in Sampang Regency.
