Abstract
Domestic wastewater is the dominant source of environmental pollution in big cities. Domestic wastewater contains water and solids consisting of 70% organic content and 30% inorganic content which endangers the environment if not treated first. For this reason, a treatment process is needed that can set aside the content of polluting parameters in domestic wastewater in order to reach safe quality standards for discharge into water bodies. This study aims to prove the relationship between impeller shape and flow pattern and analyze the optimum conditions for stirring time and impeller rotation speed in the flocculation coagulation process in removing TSS parameters. In this study, a batch flocculation coagulation process was carried out using 4 variations of impeller shape, 3 variations of stirring time, and 3 variations of impeller rotation speed. After the flocculation coagulation process was completed, sedimentation was carried out for 1 hour. The results showed a relationship between impeller shape and flow pattern in the flocculation coagulation process. The flow pattern formed due to different impeller shapes also affects the optimization of TSS parameter removal, where the flow pattern of the vaned disc turbine impeller, 6 flat blades, at 30 produces the highest TSS removal compared to other impellers. In addition, the optimum condition of the flocculation coagulation process is at a stirring time of 1 - 20 minutes and an impeller rotation speed of 100 - 60 rpm. Where these conditions can remove TSS parameters by 93.1%.
