Abstract
An Acetanilide Factory from Aniline and Acetic Anhydride with a Crystallization Process with a capacity of 40,000 tons/year will be established in the Karanganyar Industrial Area, Jalan Beji Kulon, Kemiri, Kebakktamat District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. This factory operates 24 hours a day, 330 days a year. The raw materials used are Aniline, Benzene, and Acetic Anhydride. Acetanilide is a product with a relatively economical commodity, taking into account the costs for the transportation of raw materials and products and is the most important raw material in several chemical industries, as an ingredient in the pharmaceutical industry for febrifuge and pain relievers. In addition, acetanilide is used as an adjuvant in the manufacture of paints and rubber. Briefly describe the process of the acetanilide factory, namely aniline is dissolved first with benzene then fed to the reactor to react with acetic anhydride. The reactor operates at 1200C with a pressure of 1 atm for 6 hours. The results of the reactor produce 2 products. The top product of the reactor is benzene vapor which naturally separates due to differences in boiling points and water is condensed in the condenser. The bottom product of the reactor is fed to the decolorizer tank to clarify the acetanilide solution using activated carbon. The acetanilide solution is then fed to a rotary drum vacuum filter to be separated between the acetanilide solution and activated carbon. The acetanilide solution that has been cleaned of activated carbon is then fed to the crystallizer to be crystallized, while the activated carbon is fed to the waste treatment unit for the regeneration process. After the crystallization process, the mixture of crystals and mother liquor is fed to the centrifuge to separate the crystals and mother liquor. Acetanilide crystals that are still wet are fed to the rotary dryer to be dried. Then the acetanilide crystals are cooled on a cooling conveyor and uniformed in size to 100 mesh in a ball mill. Acetanilide crystals that are uniform in size are then fed to the acetanilide silo.
