Abstract
This research was conducted starting because the number of cases of the use of gadgets in early childhood in Indonesia is increasing every year. Researchers want to see how the communication patterns that occur between generation Y husband and wife in the use of gadgets in children. The purpose of this study is to provide a picture for young couples, especially generation Y or known as millennials, in terms of the use of gadgets in early childhood, which is currently a gadget that can not be separated for children and millennial parents. The research method used by researchers is a qualitative descriptive method, using data collection techniques in depth interviews (in-depth interviews), using interpersonal communication theory because it wants to examine the relationship of communication patterns between married couples generation Y. From the research results obtained from the pattern of communication that occurs between the generation of husband and wife generation Y is the most dominant using transactional communication patterns. Transactional communication patterns are dynamic communication patterns in which there are various roles a person performs during the interaction process. In the case of the use of gadgets in couples, the generation Y husband and wife always have intense communication and are open with each other in talking about the use of gadgets on children. Making researchers get the results of transactional communication of generation Y parents, namely using gadgets on their children, because using gadgets at an early age only has a negative impact. Generation Y parents choose to use more directly with children, so that the use of gadgets can be diverted. Keywords: communication patterns, Generation Y, Gadgets
