Abstract
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (Kuzey Kibris Turk Cumhuriyeti) is a de facto state located on the Island of Cyprus. On 15 November 1983, North Cyprus unilaterally declared its independence from the Republic of Cyprus. This unilateral declaration was criticized by the UN Security Council, which stated that this action was a setback in efforts to achieve conflict resolution. In this regard, North Cyprus is trying to build an image in the international community. North Cyprus sees sport as the right tool to improve its image and maintain good relations with other countries. North Cyprus formed the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation on 29 October 1955 and the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports in 1978. North Cyprus also joined ConIFA as the football organization which supports representatives of international football teams from nations, de facto countries, regions, minority communities, and isolated sports areas. North Cyprus actively participates in competitions organized by ConIFA such as hosting the 2017 ConIFA European Football Cup and participating in the 2018 ConIFA World Football Cup. This study used the library research method with qualitative analysis techniques using secondary data. The existing data will be elaborated with the theory of sports diplomacy and constructivism which will then be described through an image formation process consisting of strategy, substance, and symbolic action. Then resulted in the conclusion that North Cyprus is trying to build an image in the context of sports diplomacy.
