Abstract
ABSTRACT Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) is an annual plant that forms clumps and grows upright with a height of 15-40 cm. This study aims to determine the results of geographic information system applications with the influence of rainfall and the relationship between rainfall on the intensity and distribution of the pest Spodoptera exigua on shallots in Probolinggo Regency. This research was carried out on shallot farming land located in Paiton District, Probolinggo Regency, East Java in March 2021. There were four methods used, namely the presence of Spodoptera exigua, data collection, data processing, and map making. The results showed that the application of GIS (Geographical Information System) can be used to determine the distribution of pests based on rainfall data. There are 24 sub-districts in Probolinggo Regency, only 3 sub-districts namely Dringu, Gading and Krejengan which grow shallots throughout the year. The severity and pattern of attacks are affected by rainfall. Weather elements affect the intensity and distribution of Spodoptera exigua pests on shallot plants. It is proven that rainfall has an impact on the percentage of pest attacks. Rainfall is inversely proportional to pest attacks. If the weather is unfavorable it is likely that Spodoptera exigua eggs will fall from the shallots.
