Abstract
Avocado (Persea Americana mill) is one of the fruit commodities that tends to increase every year. The epidermis of the avocado peel itself contains cellulose which can be processed into activated carbon which is commonly used as a raw material form a king adsorbents, so that it can increase the use value of avocados. The purpose of this research is to obtain activated carbon made from the epidermis of avocado activated using H3PO4 in accordance with applicable standards. The preparation stage begins with the carbonization process on the avocado seed epidermis, at temperature variables of 150 C degree, 200 C degree, 250 C degree, 300 C degree and 350 C degree with a variable carbonization time of 45 minutes, 60 minutes, 75 minutes, 90 minutes and 105 minutes until it turns blackish ash. Then proceed with chemical activation by soaking for 24 hours in 400ml H3PO4 solution with a concentration of 12%. The characterization of activated carbon was carried out by testing according to standard parameters applicable in Indonesia. The best results of activated carbon from avocado seed husk ash were achieved in the carbonization treatment for 75 minutes at a temperature of 300C which reached 9,83% ash content, 12,21% moisture content, 47,3% bound carbon, and 30,66% volatile matter
