Abstract
Plastic waste is an environmental problem because plastic takes a long time to experience the recycling process. One solution to this problem is to make environmentally friendly plastics (bioplastics). Bioplastics are plastics that can be used like conventional plastics, but will be destroyed by the activity of environmental microorganisms. This research aims to make bioplastics that have strong properties, do not break easily and can decompose quickly and to find the best additions of chitosan and sorbitol. This research utilizes aking rice waste as an alternative for making bioplastics. This research was conducted by dissolving 60 mesh aking rice flour and chitosan according to the variable and adding sorbitol according to the variable in 1% acetic acid solution. Then stirred with a hot plate and magnetic stirrer until homogeneous. Then the results are printed with a glass mold measuring 15cm x 15cm x 02cm. After drying, the bioplastics were analyzed for mechanical tests and biodegradation tests. From this study, the results obtained were starch content of aking rice flour, tensile strength values, elongation values and biodegradation percentages. The starch content obtained from the analysis of aking rice flour is equal to 70.6823%. The highest tensile strength value was the addition of 10 grams of chitosan and 5 ml of sorbitol with a tensile strength value of 5.716 Mpa. The highest elongation value was the addition of 6 grams of chitosan and 9 ml of sorbitol with an elongation value of 78.2%. Bioplastics can be completely degraded by adding 2 grams of chitosan, which is 100% degraded within 45 days.
